TAMKO Building Products, Inc., one of the largest privately-owned manufacturers of residential and commercial roofing products in the country, made a donation of $2,500 to the Carl Junction Middle School (CJMS) Archery team. The donation helped fund the team’s trip to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina to participate in the 2016 National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) World Tournament.

“It’s a joy to see local teams rising to this impressive level of competition,” said TAMKO President and CEO David Humphreys. “TAMKO has always been a big supporter of local youth and their sports teams. This donation is a reflection of our continued commitment to our local community and youth.”

The team, which is comprised of sixth, seventh, and eighth graders, qualified for the NASP World Tournament despite only being in its second year. The middle schoolers started competing in local tournaments in January, and the team was consistently taking first, second, and third place.

At the Southwest Missouri Regional Tournament in February, the team placed second out of nine teams and advanced to the state tournament. The team progressed from the state competition, to nationals, to finally the world tournament, where the archers finished 34th out of 79 teams. The world tournament was held June 23-26, 2016.

“None of these amazing endeavors would be possible without our community and the businesses that see value in the National Archery in the Schools Program,” said Tami Fredrickson, the CJMS Archery Team’s volunteer coach.

She continued, “The dedication and hard work the children have given taught them lessons about believing in themselves, setting and reaching goals, the value of a team and how to win and lose gracefully. We sincerely thank TAMKO for helping this team reach their goals.”
